Ah, the perils of commuting 84 miles a day on your bike.

Case in point: I noticed the tread on my rear tire this afternoon while doing yardwork; the color of the tread caught my eye as I rolled my lawnmower back into the garage...

What sucks about this situation?  It's Sunday.  Payday is 5 long days away.  And even then, if I want to buy the tire for under $100 bucks, I have to ORDER IT ONLINE! Another 5 days, at least, before I recieve the new tire.

I've gone looking for new tires around Dallas - they all absolutely want to gouge your ass with prices that are just plain too high.

I mean, I don't mind paying the labor to have it done - it's a necessity, right?  But the price of the tire itself: over-priced!

I checked at Plano Suzuki Kawasaki.

They wanted something like almost $200 for the tire alone, plus mounting fee.

Maxim Honda offered a slightly better deal with a $225 price for the tire including labor (which runs about $45 for a tire mounting).

The tire I have on my bike now is a Kenda brand tire.  I got it online from Florida.
It sells for around $80 bucks, plus delivery.

I recently (read as 2,000 miles ago) replaced my front tire with a Bridgestone Spitfire tire.
It's designed for "older bikes" according to its product decription, whatever that means.
Still, it's a good tire.  Grippy on the asphalt.

I found the rear tire now, at Amazon.com of all places.  For about $89 bucks.
And with amazon, anything over $25 gets free ground shipping, right?

Well, I may still pay extra for quicker delivery - I need that tire!

So, here's to a clean, gentle commute for the coming week.  May that tire hold its air until then.
