Journal

Well.  The end of January, 2010 draws to an end.  The first month of a new year finds me here, posting this small news bit.

If you have been wondering just where the heck I went, I will tell you.

Between work, thinking up articles that are worth reading on my Examiner.com page, FaceBook, and life in general.
But the main reason I've not proceeded with working in this blog?  I've been grooming, configuring and customizing a Joomla! site to replace this one.

Why, you ask?

Simply put, I'm practicing and getting familiar with setting up Joomla websites with the intent of (hopefully) parleying that knowledge into contract work.

So, there you have it.

I will be adding some "sub-sites" accessible from here in the near future that will be based on Joomla!

If you find you would really like to have your own type of blog/site/show-off place, let me know - I can make you an excellent deal and provide you with a site of your own for far less than most!

No kidding!  register here on my site, post in the forums or send me a private message communicating your request.  I will certainly get back to you with details!

Until  then, catch you later, boys and girls!

The Slacker that is me
GraphicsYou would think that with all the Photochopping stuff I do here and there I'd have scads of images uploaded here to massage my ego. Yet the galleries remain pretty barren, huh? Well, I will be changing that, finally. In the coming weeks I will begin uploading my pieces. Some twisted, others perhaps evocative, and still others [hopefully] funny. Remember, if you have an image you would like re-touched -- blemishes removed, brightened, darkened, beautified, or some other change done, my rates are very reasonable. Drop me a line and let me know what you need done - I will provide you a quick quote and a fast turn-around!
Time to make a change in appearance
Journal

It's been some time since I created my little 3D logo above.  Beyond that and adding a few modifications to the site in general I really haven't tried to alter it much.

I will begin designing a few changes; I will mainly focus on changing the color scheme, and rethink my banner/logo - maybe experiment with something more dynamic...

If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Update: Cage Selected!
JournalBack in May I posted that I had finally took the plunge and bought a car (see Journal entry)

Since then I helped my daughter, Kayla, buy her own car at the same dealership.

Both cars turned out to be ok - not the ultimate in gas mileage or performance (i.e., they're no porsches) but for basic transportation they have certainly fulfilled that purpose.

Lo and behold, when Kayla made a trip to drop off some paperwork at the dealership, she discovered the dealership lot to be completely empty, and the place locked up.

The damned dealership is gone!

Now, I don't really care, as dealerships go; I already had a vibe about the place because of the extreme mark-downs they had on all their stock and the fact that they were not really pushing any late model (2009's) cars, nor did they have many - maybe 15 or so?

So now I will have to take the cars to another (1 of 2 remaining, now) Suzuki dealership that is in McKinney, Tx, about 20 miles from me.  Not a big thing, though it does make me wonder if they, too, will be gone soon.

I suppose I can always try and trade the cars in after a year or so, and by then choose a dealership that has weathered the economy and isn't ailing, either.

Oh, and if you're in the market and can pay cash, I'll accpept any offer over $10,500.  That's to break even, too.
New registration security
SecurityHello, everyone.

Just another short announcement to inform you that I have added a new security measure to the site to prevent automated "bots" from registering on my site for the sole purpose of spamming it.

I am going to open the site again to allow self-registration that will no longer require me to approve them.

If you register, please take a moment and give a shout over on the left side.

Thank you all for your patronage!

After 8 years
JournalIt is my extreme pleasure to announce to you all that my fiance of 8 years and I tied the knot on Friday June 26, 2009.

It was a very simple and quick ceremony; we went before the Justice of the Peace, said our I do's and that was that!

Now, in case you're wondering, man, that was lame: onlyl a J.o.P in attendance?  What about bride's maids, best man, and all that?

Tonya and I decdied to get this part over and done with, first.  Now we will begin planning a proper wedding ceremony, one that will likely take place on a beach, we'll be barefoot, and if you play your cards right, will be in attendance...wering funny hats, or some other weird and crazy thing.

It's been a wonderful 8 years.  I have every confidence that it will be another great 80 years.
A Question of Moods
JournalFor the past couple of years I've been listening to an artist I discovered quite by accident.

It was while viewing some photoshop tutorial on youtube; it had a particular song as it's background music.

The music intrigued me.  I wanted to know wht artist it was.  In the comments I found a name: Weh

I ventured far and wide into the depths of the web and finally arrived at the artist's web page: http://www.weh.erikevju.com/index.html

What I found further gratifying is that this amazing artist offers his music freely, to be downloaded by all.

How to repay such a generous endeavor?  I have offered to help spread the word about him, Erik E., A.k.a. WEH

Click the read more link to view links to his music.

Enjoy, and share this with others.
Cage Selected!
JournalWell, boys and girls, I went and bought me a car.

Looking for basic transportation, I researched things, made comparisons.
And finally decided on a compact little hunk of...well, it's got 4 wheels, is brand new, and was well under $10K.

A 2008 Suzuki Reno -- Yeah, you read that right: a 2008.  I always go for the ones that didn't make it off the lot and end up last year's model - great breaks on prices.  Remember that!

Following are some quick phone-pix for you to ooh and ahh...

Which Cage to Buy...Hm
JournalAs you saw in my last news posting, my bike is in need of a tire.  Further, I haven't the financial resources at this time with which to replace said tire.

This latest event is yet another reason, in a growing case, for which I should try and get a vehicle, something to act as back-up for when the bike is down.

I feel a little apprehensive at the prospect of adding another monthly expense in the form of car payments, more insurance, etc.

But I also believe it is time to get that vehicle.

Tonya, the gods bless her, has been a stout supporter of my riding to and from work for the last 20 months.  Yet she worries so much; seeing news about another biker down on the highway, or some idiot that hit someone, ran them off the road...the articles are endless.  None of which helps assuage her concern for my well-being.

Twenty months...and it's been about 1,000 miles per month to boot!
I checked my odomoter, Saturday.
Will It last 400 miles?
RiderAh, the perils of commuting 84 miles a day on your bike.

Case in point: I noticed the tread on my rear tire this afternoon while doing yardwork; the color of the tread caught my eye as I rolled my lawnmower back into the garage...

news: worntread.jpg

What sucks about this situation?  It's Sunday.  Payday is 5 long days away.  And even then, if I want to buy the tire for under $100 bucks, I have to ORDER IT ONLINE! Another 5 days, at least, before I recieve the new tire.

I've gone looking for new tires around Dallas - they all absolutely want to gouge your ass with prices that are just plain too high.

I mean, I don't mind paying the labor to have it done - it's a necessity, right?  But the price of the tire itself: over-priced!

I checked at Plano Suzuki Kawasaki.
1st, Oh-ree-N-tohs...now ruskies?
SecurityIn this day and it still floors me how much spam and crap is prevalent out there.

I mean, what it the satisfaction here?  What in the name of <insert favorite diety here> do these folk derive for mass-mailling, mass-registering, and mass(turbating) the genitals of the web?

Is it really that orgasmically reciprocating to these would-be script monkeys to send this crap out day after day?

I try and picture their conversations:
