Tonya has had a Blackberry Curve for a few months now. Being the "gadget queen" that she is (and me unable to resist indulging her) obtained it through T-Mobile.
Me on the other hand have been using a little flip-phone for about 2 years and change. Also with T-Mobile.
I've been viewing and reviewing phones since about the end of March in anticipation of the fact that my 2 years with T-mobile was at an end, and that perhaps I would be able to choose a new phone at a good discount and stuff.
I've been gravitating more and more to the smartphone/pda types as they have capabilities that would actually benefit me.
But prices are freakin' high! At least, the ones I liked ended up priced far higher than I can justify spending for a damn phone, you know?
But then, I come across an offer on Amazon.com - a Blackberry Curve for ZERO after rebate! How 'bout that!
But being the frugal (ok, stingy) bastard that I can be, I thought there is likely a catch somewhere.
I chat with the 3rd party vendor about the offer - says that T-mobile will allow me to get this phone, then migrate my existing number to it, then I can simply close the phone number given to me at time of activation...
Sounds a little too easy if you know what I mean.
And I was right - in the fine print on their site it stated (much like with any provider I guess) that I would not be able to cancel ANY existing service with T-Mobile for a period of 3 months after which I would then be able to do so.
So I call T-mobile. I tell them that as a 3+ year subscriber/client I would like some token of appreciation for the business they've received from me in the form of a juicy discount on that Blackberry Curve -- a phone that's been out for over a year, mind you -- when I sign on for another 2 years with them.
Their response: (in so many words) "you're fucking kidding, right? Right?
...no, really...right?"
I told them about the offer and stuff - no go.
I then told them to go fuck themselves.
Ok, not really. But I did call around and checked with other phone services.
Lo and behold, I found what I wanted with ATT - for a mere $99.00 bucks I got a refurbed Blackberry, same basic services I had with T-Mobile, and my number transferred.
HA, bitches!
Now, to spend some time figuring out how to use this damned thing...
